November Children's Book: The Dot

Hello There!

I love this book! This book is called The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This book. Is about a Kindergartener named Vashti. Vashti is seemingly frustrated one day in her art class. Her teacher just tells her to mark her paper and see where it takes her. This one dot inspires her in so many magnificent ways! This is a great book for children ages 5-9 in their self discovery phase. All children need a creative outlet to calm their mind and take brain breaks in between their academia. The Dot is a perfect story to tell before an art lesson. It takes away all the expectations and worry of trying to create and allows students to have fun! It's usually in life's unexpected circumstances that we find our true purpose and life's greatest accomplishments. You will truly find this petite book filled with mammoth life lessons for your kiddos. Love it!

Holiday Gift Guide: Mom Would Love This!

Hello Everybody!

The holidays are almost here! I thought I would give you some inspiration about what to give each  person this Holiday Season. Since I'm going though ideas for each person in your family, I'm going to start with gifts to give your mom. I don't know about you, but whenever I think of mothers, I think of someone's who is always thinking about her home. She loves design and all the neat trinkets that are in it!  C.Wonder is this great little store I went to  based in New York City. They have the cutest lacquer boxes for the home, bowls of pretty prints, picture frames and other fun things. They also have some adorable cutting boards and bamboo inspired cheese serving knives. Restoration Hardware has soft and cozy robes, fur throws and candles. Jo Malone has great gift boxes for your mother filled with candles and fragrance too! Tom Ford Santal Blush is a soft smelling fragrance for moms everywhere. David Yurman has some beautiful bracelets and rings if you want to splurge. These are just a few of my favorite things for the holiday season. So don't get frustrated this holiday season, get inspired! What gifts did you give that your mom loved?

Style Daily: Dot, Dot, Dot... Polka Dots!

Hello Everyone,

I want to talk about a fashion statement that I recently really liked. Polka Dots! Yes, sometimes polka dots can look loud and eye popping. There is a way to wear this look in a polished classic look. A simple polka dot sweater with jeans looks ultra casual and put together. You could also switch out the jeans for a more professional look opting for a little black pencil skirt. Remember to wear your black opaque tights this winter! I recently saw a super cute lace skirt combined with the polka dot inspiration. So many choices! I am really loving mixing different fabric prints to achieve a non-uniform look. Mixed prints can be magnificent to the eye. I love observing other peoples style. We are all pieces of art on the busy streets! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! What are some things that you find alluring this season?

Endorphins Make You Happy!

Hi There!

Today I wanted to touch on the subject of getting in a good workout even when it becomes cold outside. I personally hate going to the gym. I feel like a hamster on a wheel! Oh yeah, and those nasty sweat germs gross me out! As much as I can, I try to get outside and work it! This time of year is a bit tough. On top of coming home exhausted and tired from a long day, I just want to curl up and relax! I have noticed a huge difference when I haven't worked out in a few days. I become more lethargic and my mood is decreased. Last evening, I actually got the gumption to get out there and go! As soon as I hit the pavement, I felt instant energy. My mood changed from super annoyed and moody to the feeling like I could do anything:) I even felt like I did some Beyoncé moves while listening to my music. Ha! It was dark out, I'm pretty sure I didn't have an audience.

I think in today's world, we are so quick to just pop a pill or be given a diagnoses to our health problems,  when really it's just a workout issue. Humans were not created to sit all day at a desk. Way back in caveman times, we actually had to sprint and work hard for our food.

Today, all it takes is putting your foot on the gas pedal and stopping at McDonalds. We eat preservative and processed laden foods which can last in our cabinets for months at a time. I don't know about you, but it doesn't sound that good for us as human beings. We weren't made for those fake foods! I guess all I'm trying to say in this article is if you feel sad or suffer from seasonal depression, go outside, breathe the fresh air, and there's nothing that a quick little outdoor workout can't fix. Even if it's for a brisk 30- minute walk. Those help too! Maybe this post will inspire you to drop that doughnut and get out there after work. As Elle Woods would say " Endorphins make you happy!" Take care!

November Children's Book: I'm Gonna Be Like Me

Good Day!

Today I wanted to tell you about a great book I read by the ever so famous woman by the name of Jamie Lee Curtis. It's called I'm Gonna Be like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem. I'm so glad that a well known actress could reach out to children in such a positive and inspirational way. Jamie, herself had a tough time when she was a child with her self esteem. Like most adolescent children, it took many years for her to fully accept and appreciate herself. When people can come out and tell their stories about their hardships, it makes the books they write have real meaning to others.

We all go through tough times, it's how we overcome our individual obstacles that makes us stronger in the end. We can then use these experiences to propel us forward through life. We shouldn't allow these flaws to weigh us down! Find your imperfections as a trait of your very own and learn to embrace them! Students will find this book uplifting and should give them confidence in their own lives.

YOU have the power and the choice to be who you want to be in life. Create your own destiny. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you let them, then your living their life, not your own. Thank you, Jamie Lee, for making the world a better place!

Style Daily: My White Tee Shirt

Hello Everyone!

Today I wanted to talk about the Classic White Cotton Tee Shirt. This is such a perfect and simple clothing piece! No matter how you swing it, you can't mess up this up! Whether it be V Neck or Crew, you can't go wrong! There are so many different ways you can wear this shirt. Long sleeve, short sleeve, or 3/4's length. You can wear it with jeans or black leggings. The possibilities are endless! If you can work it well, the little white tee shirt can even look pulled together with a little black pencil skirt and pumps. Black or blue blazers look ultra casual with a white tee shirt. If you want to go ultra inexpensive, Hanes has great white tees for the best deal. Those are great because I love my tees looking extra crisp and white! American Apparel also has great solid tees. I love their material.  Look fresh and so fresh and so clean, clean in your white tee! Have a terrific day!

October Children's Book: The Spider and The Fly

Good Day!

Today I wanted to review a fun book for your children/students called The Spider and The Fly by Mary Howitt. This book is about an evil spider and his cunning plan to capture such a sweet lady fly in his web. It starts out with the spider meeting the fly and how he sneakily lets the fly into his home clothed as a sweet spider. The innocent fly is unsure at first, but decides to trust the spider because of her naiveness. This book was a Caldecott award winner and the illustrations are electrifyingly beautiful. You can teach a lesson to your students/children about not to believe everything that a person says, especially people that they don't know. This book is a perfect October read. You won't regret picking it up

Fall/Winter Style Colors: Black and Gold

Hello Everyone!

Today I wanted to touch on my inspiration for style. As we are ascending into the colder weeks of Fall and soon to be transitioning into Winter,(it's here!) I no longer reach for my neon colored sweater. I look toward bold neutral colors that make me feel comfortable and are a bit easy on the eyes. When I begin into the colder months, I want to coordinate my wardrobe as to how I'm feeling during the seasons. I feel like a changing colorful leaf! Two colors that look stunning together are black and gold. I really love the contrast of the darkness of black and the gold shimmer of gold. Even in hardware on black bags looks so sharp! I really love wearing gold accessories. I usually only wear one or two at a time again. Too much is overload. I don't want to resemble Flava Flav. The gold chain looks classic when it is worn subtly. Here's a few style inspired photos I found. You can even paint  a pumpkin black and gold! What color  combination suits you for the winter season ahead?
